ICE SITTING STONES (2022)
Series of photographs that investigates the fragile states of transformation between solidity and transience, image and object. Each work begins with a silver gelatin print of stones covered in ice — a fleeting natural formation where permanence and impermanence meet. Onto these photographs, Plexiglas cut-outs are mounted, precisely echoing the contours of the ice.
This additional layer shifts the works from photographs into hybrid objects. As light catches the Plexiglas, reflections appear and vanish, rendering the ice three-dimensional, almost sculptural.
Beyond questions of image and illusion, the work is also a meditation on ecological temporality. The ice signals fragility and change, where as the Plexiglas, as a synthetic material, introduces tension between the organic and the artificial. In their interplay, the works point toward the impossibility of fixing nature in a permanent state, while also reflecting our desire to preserve, capture, and replicate what is inherently transient.
In 2024, Ice Sitting Stones was awarded the Young Artist Award by VAAL Gallery, recognizing its exploration of perception, materiality, and temporality.

ICE SITTING STONES (2022)
Series of photographs of stones covered in ice. By adding Plexiglas cut-outs that mimic the shape of the ice, the photos are given an additional layer of material. When viewed, the Plexiglas parts reflect, making the photo and the ice appear more sculpural.
